Incision

The words movimientos de tierra translated as earth movements and also soil movements, is an action that took place in the south of Chile in the region of Araucanía in 2019. Through making an incision in the soil of a common field of this fertile region, a landmark of a study on art and nature was made.

The performative action served as a poetic manifestation and in-detail representation of a long study made by three people on the cross between art and nature. This study was entitled “Movimientos de Tierra” which contemplated the construction of an art work on natural site by six artist in different parts of Chile. These works were then exhibited on the Museum of Fine arts in Santiago, in a documentary by Matias Cardone and a publication by Poligrafa, Barcelona.

The literal paraphrasing of the tittle of the project, served as evidence of an investigation not made only by books, online research, interviews and studies, but on dirt, soil, sand, stones, hay and water. The process of delineation, drawing and digging between crops, fields, cows and trees will give the body and structure of the coming publication. As the text and content develop on the book, the process of the construction of the piece is revealed. The final image on its context entitles the publication itself.
