Future Perfect Land

The artistic experiment, FuturePerfectLand playfully appropriated the format of a travelling funfair as a provocative curatorial framework in which the artworks were presented as “rides” of the funfair. Seven site-specific, immersive, participatory and transdisciplinary artistic environments explored speculative scenarios shaped by the escalation of the climate crisis. The non exhibition used auditory, visual, performative, narrative and somatic strategies to temporarily submerge the visitor in a liminal world.

In September 2021, FuturePerfectLand first opened its gates free of charge in Monopol Berlin, set against the backdrop of a former distillery with its industrial brick buildings overtaken by wild greenery. The artworks which were newly commissioned by CCPA (Curatorial Collective for Public Art) for FuturePerfectLand’s first edition, were created to be context-specific and site-responsive. CCPA on the elaboration of the design of the funfair, responded to the location’s particular characteristics. Conceiving site specific installations such as a water tank which was transformed into an interactive conversatory fountain, an audio installation which revived the frog population that once inhabited the area or a newly commissioned site-specific sound sculpture that guided visitors over the distillery’s terrain to the entrance of FuturePerfectLand.

FuturePerfectLand’s first edition was realized with the kind support of HauptstadtKulturFonds.
