Room 0

To introduce her exhibition Cine(so)matrix in Museo Reina Sofía, Angela Melitopoulos invited me to develop an installation that could work as a prologue of her exhibition.

Angela’s work consist on complex multi-channel audio visual installations that address the historical and technological conditions of our cinematic experience of the world. Through her video editing and its immersive way of displaying it, she simulates the roles of the human memory and its intercerebral communications.

Attempting to decipher the complexity of her work and at the same time seeking to reverse the digitalness of her installations, a tangible analogue textile installation was proposed. The goal was to visualize and connect the multiple threads presented in the exhibition.

The installation was made of physical nodes or weaving combs that represented the art works themselves. Colored cotton threads brought the multiple lines of the investigations and a selection of phrases, quotes, poems and authors which were printed on a large wall paper on the back, gave a context of it all. The interweaving of all these elements conformed Room O, a weaving installation that served as visual metaphor of the multiple connections and currents of human consciousness presented in the exhibition.
